Vighnesh Prasad

Vighnesh is using rheology as a tool to describe the flow behaviour of various mineral slurries in pipes. The effects of particle concentration, particle size and additives on the slurry rheology and slurry transport are taken under consideration and constitute an important part of his doctoral work.

Research Description:
The transportation of particulate matter including minerals, chemicals, nuclear, granular and their by-products has become a major concern across the world. One of the economically and environmentally viable techniques which potentially offers a solution to this problem includes transportation of these solids in the form of slurry through pipelines. The various factors under consideration are particle size, particle shape and different additives such as surfactants as rheology modifiers. Vighnesh is dealing with the problem associated with hydraulic transportation of these slurries in pipelines in order to get stable slurry and design a pipeline system which results in the optimum energy required to transport a large throughput to longer distances at a lower cost.
